What is EFT?
EFT, or Emotional Freedom Techniques, is a therapeutic approach that combines elements of cognitive therapy with physical tapping on specific points on the body, often referred to as acupressure or meridian points. During an EFT session, individuals tap on these points in a specific sequence while focusing on and verbalising thoughts, emotions, or experiences related to a particular issue, emotion, event, or trauma.
This process is believed to influence the body's stress response by calming the nervous system and reducing the emotional intensity associated with the issue. Research suggests that tapping may help regulate the amygdala, a part of the brain involved in processing fear and stress, potentially reducing the brain's perception of the memory, issue, or trauma as distressing.
Studies have shown EFT to be beneficial for a variety of concerns, including anxiety, trauma, depression, body image issues, food cravings, phobias, and reprogramming negative beliefs. Evidence suggests that tapping may help lower cortisol levels and influence how the brain responds to stress, making it a potentially valuable tool for emotional and psychological well-being.
I offer counselling to help process trauma, alleviate depression and anxiety, minimise body image issues, improve confidence, and support those who have experienced domestic and family violence.
As your counsellor, my role is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where we can clarify the issues at hand, explore your options, increase your awareness, and develop effective strategies for moving forward.
