Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), often known as tapping, is a powerful therapeutic approach that combines elements of cognitive therapy, mindfulness, and acupressure.
By gently tapping on specific points on the face and body while focusing on an issue, EFT helps to calm the nervous system, reframe difficult thoughts, and reduce emotional distress.
Many of my clients find EFT empowering because it’s a tool they can continue to use outside of sessions, giving them confidence in managing triggers and stress.
EFT is more than just “alternative therapy”, it is supported by a growing body of clinical research:

Is EFT the same as traditional counselling?
Not exactly. EFT blends elements of cognitive behavioural therapy with acupressure and mindfulness. It complements traditional therapies and is often used alongside counselling approaches such as CBT.
Does EFT really work, or is it placebo?
Research shows EFT produces measurable changes in the body, like reduced cortisol levels and improved brain regulation. Clinical trials confirm its effectiveness goes beyond placebo.
What does a session feel like?
Most clients describe EFT as calming and grounding. Some feel relief quickly, while others notice gradual shifts over time.
As an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, I integrate EFT into sessions when it is helpful for my clients. Whether you are managing stress, recovering from trauma, or wanting to change long-standing patterns, EFT can be a gentle and effective part of your healing journey.
If you’re curious about how EFT tapping can support you, I offer sessions here in Cairns and online across Australia.
